God, why did it always have to be so hot? New York was lucky to get half this warm in the summer. But oh well, at least it provided suitable weather for shorts and tiny tee's. Speaking of which, look who we've got; Layne Hudson. Who just happened to be making her way down to the harbor. Sure, she had no idea why, but it seemed like fun.
Wearing a simple pair of navy cotton short shorts and a white cami, Layne was looking anything and everything near casual. Her blessed sunglasses warded off any signs of sun, all while adding to her look. I wish I brought my hat she taunted herself, tying brunette locks into a high pony. Now to find someone.

Leaning backward, the tall male rested his palms upon the wooden deck, faded blue jean clad legs hanging over the side, swaying gently. The harbor was the perfect place to think, being as it provided a secluded and quiet atmosphere. And this male had way too much things on his mind, each fighting to the forefront, wanting to be examined first. He pushed them back as much he could, trying to focus on just one -- Elizabeth. She was acting strangely, that was for sure, and she had the sickening habit of leaving the country without alerting him of it. It seemed to him that each time they got closer, she was trying to push him away. Frankly, it was starting to weigh on his nerves.
Wetting slightly dried lips, he closed his grey-blue eyes, feeling the sun bathe over his skin. He'd relieved himself of the shirt he'd worn there, leaving it to sit atop his sneakers, both situated next to him for easy access. So his torso was now only just covered by a white wifebeater, and he looked more like his brother Ryder at this point -- appearance-wise at least. The usually impeccably dressed Cole had taken a vacation.
Wind playing with the slightly longer locks of dark blonde hair atop his head, he didn't reach a hand to bat the locks away, but instead allowed them to tickle his forehead. He had better things to do than worry about his quickly becoming messy hair...

Layne sighed inwardly, scanning her grey-blue eyes among the many inhabitants of the O.C. There really wasn't much to do on a day like this-- or any other day, for that matter-- but what else was new? She tended to get lost in drawing, or singing in the lofty studio appartment of hers, but today she was alone, joined only by her thoughts. They taunted her, teased her, told her to go do something with this new and exciting life of hers; But all Layne could think about was relaxing. She'd have plenty of time here in the O.C to freak out about finals, work wayy to hard for a promotion, and even walk her dog. Today was a time to look at the beauty around her and try to make it in this land of luxury.
Occasionally peering into shopfronts, the girl stopped to look at her reflection. She was about 5'6, obviously thin, and fairly curvy. Layne cocked her head to the side, tapping her slightly pouted lower lip with her index finger. Yes, she had spotted something; or maybe someone. Ah yes, it was a boy, leaning on the railing which outstretched itself through the entire harbor. Why not talk to him? her thoughts told her, He's obviously gorgeous. With a blink of those long black eyelashes of hers, Layne swatted her thoughts away. Instead, she strode up to the handsome boy and made her presence known. "All alone? On a day like this?" she remarked, quickly shifting her weight to one side. "How very interesting."

A voice joined his thoughts, obviously not his own, unless the voice inside his head had freakishly turned into a female. Sliding one lid open, he peeked at the female hovering over him, inconspicuously taking in her appearance in a sweeping one-eyed glance. Now with both eyes open, he raised his brows, thinking over her comments. Yeah, he was all alone on a rather nice day, which he should be enjoying with his girlfriend. So why wasn't he? Elizabeth was nowhere to be found...again. He didn't think she was anywhere outside of Orange County, but he couldn't get a hold of her. Well, in actuality, he hadn't tried to get in touch with her. He had his reasons...
"Yeah, I guess so," he finally spoke, tone of voice light, smooth. "I could say the same for you," he retorted, small smirk playing about his lips as he slipped his gaze to the waters instead. "Have a seat. We might as well enjoy each other's company, no?" he suggested, patting the free spot on the deck next to him. "I'm Cole...You?" She was a perfect stranger to him, so introductions were indeed at hand.

Layne was suprised by the boy's kindness. It shouldn't have been so out of the ordinary, but oddly enough, Layne had yet to meet any guy that was actually genuine enough to be thoughtful, besides Tyler, of course. "Thanks" was the small response she gave, which she considered wimpy up against Cole's reply. Hopping up beside him on the railing, she placed to newly manicured hands on top of one another in her lap. "I'm Layne" she stated, unable to verbalize anything over two words long. A warm smile tickled the ends of her lips, exposing a white toothed smile as he mentioned them being each other's company. "It seems so.. I mean, for all the people around, it seems like there's no one to talk to." she stopped, reminding herself what she had just said. "Well, was." The girl giggled softly. This seemed nice enough, and if otherwise, she could always just leave. What was wrong with taking a chance? "You live around here?" she inquired, sounding incredibly stupid while saying it. Well, at least they'd have a conversation.

"Pleasure," Cole simply murmured upon learning her name. He smirked, keeping himself from saying something smart at her question. She was obviously trying to make conversation, and he wasn't one to hold it against her. "Not around here per se...I live more towards the beach. With my cousin, Amberlynn," he gave her the healthy response, though it lacked an exact location. She didn't need to know all that just yet. "You're not from around here, are you," he said, his words coming out as more of a statement than a question. Everyone who'd lived in Orange County a whole while, was known -- whether it be positively or negatively. This Layne girl wasn't. "Where from? And you vacationing this side? Or just moved here?" he asked, halting the swaying of his legs and once more closing his eyes.

Layne nodded as he spoke, though she was looking out to the ocean line. "Actually, I do live here." her voice sounded as though even she was suprised that she lived here. "I'm just really out of place, as you can probably tell." Layne giggled again, looking back to his eyes. The conversation was healthy, and she was glad to be able to talk to someone. "I'm actually from New York. I'm here on an internship for an up and coming fashion industry. I actually live right up the road." It was funny how Layne could go from one word answers to life bio's in a matter of minutes. She fiddled with the hem of her shorts, regretting ever wearing them. They certainly weren't anything conservative, and maybe even suggestive. Only good for running. "By the looks of your tan, I'd say you've been here in the O.C quite awhile, no?" Layne removed her sunglasses and set them atop her head, finding it rude to talk to someone without letting them know they have your undivided attention. That's just how she worked.

"Mmm. If I were you, I'd rather be out of place than managing to fit in and be one of those stuck-up bitches littering this place," Cole said slowly, and honestly believed this. There were way too many of them, and the whole looking up to a Queen Bee or fighting to be higher up than her was practically ludicrous. Girls. They were weird individuals at times, and he was frankly happy to not be one. He did love them though. "Ahh. The fashion industry. I guess I have to become a friend then. Free clothes," he lightly joked, only just messing around. "Meh. Not really. About a couple of months really. I've lived in California all my life though. San Francisco to be exact," he informed, shrugging. He wouldn't tell her why he made the decision to move this side though. Not yet...not until they became friends or something. "Both my brothers are out this side too. Ryder for the summer...and Clyde for...I don't know exactly how long he's going to be in town. He's in the army you see." Wow. He'd said all that without having been asked about it. This girl was easy to talk to, he discovered. "Maybe you've seen Ryder about town. He's out of place too. Ya know...the whole biker-guy thing. Not caring what nobody else thinks of him."

The girl smiled as Cole described the O.C girls. "It's funny you mention that. I mean, I've been here what? Two weeks? And I've already noticed it." she sighed overdramatically. "Oh well, looks Layne'll be a lone wolf." and with that she giggled. She knew it wasn't true, and even if it was, it's not like she cared. Tyler, E.V, Zanna, Devin, and Drek didn't seem to care. Layne focused on his next words. "Ha, unless you're into heels and handbags, I think I'll hold onto the freebies," Leaning back onto her palms, she took in the scenery around her. "Brothers, eh? Nah I've yet to see them. I guess I'll let you know when I do, though." she replied, kicking her heels forward and back a few times before letting them sway. Well, wasn't this nice. She'd found a stud to talk to on a beautiful day all without trying. Thank you O.C. Looking over to him once more, she noticed something that couldn't go unmentioned. "Hey, we've got the same colored eyes!" she cried, sitting up intently. "How cool. And here I thought I was the only one." Layne chuckled, returning to her relaxed position. Very cool.

"I noticed it from the first day," Cole softly chuckled. "My cousin Amber took me to this party at Rachel's house," he began, not needing to say the last name. Who didn't know Rachel Schellenberg? "And it was full to the brim with those 'I'm better than you' or 'I'm pretending to be your friend but I honestly hate you' girls, and even some 'I'm being myself but I'll change a bit to fit into your circle' ones." He slightly rolled his eyes. That party though...it was where he first met Elizabeth, and learned that they shared one similar interest. Computer programming. He was more of a whiz at it though -- it just came naturally to him, from a very early age.
Snapping his fingers, Cole pouted over at her. "Damn. You found out about my secret life," he sighed, shaking his head, looking very serious about this. He had a good poker face from playing the game so much. "You won't tell anyone about my fetish for wearing heels and sporting handbags do you?" he asked, eyes seemingly pleading with her to keep his secret. He then grinned, running a hand through his hair, messing it up even more. "Actually, I was only kidding."
At her outburst of them having the same eye color, Cole chuckled. "Yeah, seems we do. I'm the only one out of the Hill brothers who inherited it," he stated, only then glancing into her eyes. It was kind of weird to see his own eye color reflected back at him. "So, you always been interested in fashion? Was what you'd wanted to do with your life?"

Layne understood exactly where he was coming from. "Yeah, it's kinda like that in New York, but things are /supposed/ to be unique up there, so it's kinda like, if you fit in, you're weird." She shrugged, staring at her white flip flops as they swung at the ends of her legs. A laughter fit emmited from her lips the entire time he gave his little act. "You'd be suprised." she beamed, her perfectly arched brows raising slightly and mischeviously. She nodded, agreeing with their eye-color situation. Her focus was on his next question. "Yeah," she began, letting her head hang a bit. Sure, she could tell him, but she wasn't sure if he'd like hearing about whining girls. She didn't want him to feel like he had to feel sorry for her. She couldn't. But she also couldn't let a good thing go. What could possibly happen if she told him? He'd laugh? Well, it was worth a try. "Nah," she piped up, turning her entire body to face him. "I actually was a gymnast for seven years. I would've started earlier, but there was the accident.." she trailed off, looking away for a moment. "When I was young, oh probably around four, I was involved in a pretty bad car accident. 'Screwed me up, and I couldn't walk for almost a year. But look at me now." she teased, smiling brightly. See? That wasn't so bad. She failed to mention that her knee was shattered, or how she still walks with a slight limp, but that could wait -- for now. "I got the opportunity to come work here, and my parents wouldn't let me turn it down. Even bought me my very own studio." She nodded softly, but with pride. "What about you? Any hobbies?"

"Oh. Sorry about the accident," Cole said sincerely, thinking it was sort of sad her dreams got dashed because of it. "Well, I don't really have any hobbies per se," he murmured, wondering how much he should tell this girl. "I'm a computer programmer though," he informed, turning to look at her. "Working sort of free-lance. I don't want to be tied down to one company, so I just design stuff for whichever wants my services." In a sense, their careers were pretty similar. They both designed stuff, just in different fields. "And I don't think this counts for anything, but I have this weird hand for poker," he stated, wrinkling his nose. "I rarely lose for some reason or another. Guess that skill would come in handy if I ever chose to play the strip kind eh?" he smirked, a grin curving upon his lips.
"Did your whole family move here? Or just you?" Looking down at the waters, Cole was debating jumping in or not. Of course it wasn't the beach, but the water here was also pretty damn clean. All he'd have to do was get down to his board shorts, and take a dive. Hmm.

Layne smiled, sensing his sincerity. She listened calmly, immediately sensing how their fields of interest coincided with one another. "Interesting. My dad is very much involved with computers too. Who knows, maybe you have something in common." She shrugged, telling herself once more how she was technilogically impared. Layne giggled when he mentioned the strip poker, piping up with "I bet so," hoping not to sound too suggestive. Why, being the gorgeous and sincere person he was, it'd be a shock to find that he didn't have a girlfriend. "Actually, my whole family decided to move up here. My parents live in a cute little ranch styled cabana right along the shore line, and me, well I've got my adorable studio now." She smiled. Today was proving to be very fun. Layne glanced at the shops around her. She had seen him look to the ocean, and figured what he meant by it. "Going for a little swim, are we?" asked Layne, noticing there was a small little bathing suit shack only feet away. She hadn't worn one, but if needed, she could always buy one...

"Maybe we do," Cole said, wondering whom her old man was, but didn't ask. Instead he smiled, looking away from her. "And a bet you'd win," he smirked, brushing certain thoughts from his head. A bit surprised by her reading what he wanted do so easily, he turned his head to glance at her, a thoughtful expression worn on his face. "Uh, yeah. Wanna join me?" he asked, not too sure if she had a bathing suit beneath her clothes. If she didn't, she could easily get in with what she was wearing. Whatever. It didn't matter him either way.

Layne sat forward, nearly shocked by what he'd said. She couldn't help but like it, however. A smug smile graced her features, and she sat up on her palms. "Why not," she concluded, hopping down from the railing and stretching out her legs. There was a wooden planked ramp that lead to the beach, but they could always just swing their legs around the railing and make things short. "If you don't mind," she began, taking a few steps away from him and turning around to look over her shoulder back at him, "I'll be just a minute."
Just as she'd said, Layne returned a few minutes later looking the same way she had before, but coral straps peeked out from behind the cami. "Shall we?"
((Sorry mine was kinda short too.))
